This building situated in the Santa Maria del Giglio area is made up of two separate structures joined together in the 17th century.
The oldest is of Byzantine origin and still retains traces of friezes with acanthus leaves probably from the 12th century.   It also appears on Jacopo de' Barbari's map.  Frescoes by Tiepolo on ceiling and above doors, complementing the large painting of The Triumph of Virtue and Nobility Over Ignorance (now kept in Ca' Rezzonico) which Tiepolo conceived for the centre of the ceiling of one of the rooms reserved for Gregorio (Rio San Maurizio side).  In the room on the Rio San Maurizio side (the medieval side of the building), there is still a 1742 alcove in rocaille style with a central alcove (for the bed) and two lateral wings with small doors decorated with mirrors).
